Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a grade of A. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also want to point out that this facility was awarded a great long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it one of our most impressive scores in that area with a score of A-. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a deadly ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. The nursing grade is based on a variety of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care, which is this nursing home's least impressive category. It received a lowly F for this category, which is clearly a major concern. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is more often than not a solid measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.1 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
