Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This place boasts a really impressive 5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the better totals of nursing hours we were able to find. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in the state in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these metrics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also received a virtually flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with a score of A+. This was one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our third category, this first-rate nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care. In this area, we gave it a A+. Only a small group of facilities performed better in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.20548 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
In the final category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our short-term care rating. This rounded out an elite report card. In calculating our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. This nursing home excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility offered more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the typical nursing home. This is certainly an excellent sign. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 44.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
