Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving an elite overall score, this nursing home earned an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another quality feature for this nursing home is that it was given a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, this ended up being its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a B+. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 90.303024 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is somewhat lower than we expected but still a decent percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Despite having 1.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most facilities since it had more complex patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a favorable short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this category. Short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 58.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we scored was nursing, where this nursing home was given a B-. This actually proved to be this nursing home's worst category. This is nevertheless not the end of the world. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are with patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is not an impressive total. Although this place ranked poorly in terms of the quantity of nursing care provided, it surprisingly performed admirably in a few of our quality measures. In fact, it was above average in two of the major statistics we look at, with positive reviews for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These data points are measures of the quality of nursing care available since many falls and bed sores are preventable.
