Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most favorable category was short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average score in this category. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which is not a score to write home about. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.21254 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at is nursing. It received an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. This is clearly a major concern. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. In addition to receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
