To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, we were not able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received a superb score of A in our long-term care area. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

The next area we looked at is short-term care. Contributing to its elite profile, this facility also excelled in this area. In fact, it received a grade of of A- for the area. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more critical for folks requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

The final category we analyzed was nursing. This facility was awarded a better than average nursing rating in our assessment, with a grade of B. Even though this isn't quite as strong as several of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of our better grades in that area. The nursing score weighs several data points. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
