Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. This was one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was short-term care. This facility also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive several A+ category scores. Short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The fourth category we graded was nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of A. This finished off a very favorable report card. Few facilities earned an A- or better in all four categories. When calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
