Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an A-. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings are based on several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given strong short-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our better scores in this area, with a B. This turned out to be the facility's second highest score. Our short-term care scores are likely most meaningful for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this nursing home performed much more favorably. This place outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 60 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. There are a variety of criteria included in this area. Most of the datapoints reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, our nursing scores also factor in some quality-focused statistics. We look at the percent of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we rated is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to just 83.27645 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.59 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
