Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality facility is that it received a very impressive short-term care rating. Short-term care turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home an impressive grade of A. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also earned excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with an A-. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Our nursing grade weighs a handful of components, however, the primary one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive area was long-term care, which is the final category we looked at. For this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of just D. We want to to draw your attention to this possible weak spot, however, you shouldn't over-emphasize one category either. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.73418 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
