Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Not many nursing homes performed more favorably in this category. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 93.023254 percent of its residents. This is a bit lower than we were hoping for but still a decent figure. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.97 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility just a D for our short-term care rating. This is not one of our better scores. Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well in this area. In fact, we found that just 41.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing, which is this nursing home's worst category. We gave it an F in this area, which is certainly a major concern. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
