Facility Inspections
This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially wanted to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that area with a score of B+. In determining these short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.5671 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated is nursing, which ended up being this facility's worst category. We gave this facility a grade of D in that area. Naturally, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade a bit. When determining our nursing ratings, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular place averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This number is far below average. While this nursing home did not excel in nursing hours, it actually surprised us in some of the quality-based assessments in the nursing category, such as avoiding serious falls. This facility performed above average in this metric, which was one redeeming quality we found in this area.
