Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also was given an impressive short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is generally a reliable measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also above average in the category of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. For patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 85.86572 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we analyzed was nursing. We gave this nursing home a solid score in this category, with a B-. Even though this was not as high as some of this facility's other scores, it is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. Our nursing score assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this statistic. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident at least once a day.
