Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed favorably in the area of long-term care, with an elite score of A- in this category. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 78.43823 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat lower than we anticipated but still a respectable percentage. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 3.14 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. The nursing rating assesses quite a few subcategories, however, the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home really did not perform very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this is this nursing home's weakest grade. Our short-term care scores are important for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 16.5 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
