Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care grade. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 94 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A. Few nursing homes with an overall grade in this range performed this well in multiple categories. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the next area, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. Our short-term care scores are likely most meaningful for people in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The last area we rated was nursing, is this nursing home's worst category. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. This really is one of the couple of weak links in an otherwise impressive report card. Our nursing score is based on several factors. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home was above average in two of the major statistics we focus on, with solid marks for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
