Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

We also wanted to point out this nursing home's rock-bottom short-term care score where it received a lowly F. In the area of short-term care, we strive to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. As you might expect, we discovered that this nursing home offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. There are numerous subcategories within this grade. Many of these criteria are tied to staffing levels. This place offered a meager 1.8 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This number is quite a bit below average. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is concerning when you consider that so many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a weak nursing grade.

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home really didn't perform very well in this category either. With a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated just 66.85963 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.13 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
