Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This facility was hit with 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provided just 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic really dragged down this facility's nursing rating substantially.

This facility wound up receiving a a very poor score in our long-term care area. It was given a lowly F in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 36.53846 percent of its patients. Lastly, we were stunned by the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared very poorly with 3.63 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this statistic is more than double the national average.

The next area we scored was short-term care. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in this category. Short-term care grades are vital for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 37.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this facility's short-term care score.
