Facility Inspections
On top of being a top notch nursing home overall, this place also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing grade is largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an impressive statistic which typically leads to quality care. Finally, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls which lead to major injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the nation. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
Compounding its remarkable profile, this nursing home also was given a superb short-term care grade, with a score of A-. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most important for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This place is above the national average in terms of both its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that it performed better than most nursing homes in the country in this area with 54.5 percent of its patients able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final category, this facility was given a high-end long-term care score. We gave it a grade of B+ in that category, wrapping up one of our finer profiles. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.0172 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.37 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
