Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our nursing rating. Nursing grades are largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning a patient more frequently.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The next category we analyzed was short-term care. Contributing to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also excelled in that area. In fact, it received a of A in the area. In determining our short-term care ratings, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is typically a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The final area we analyzed was long-term care, where this facility was given an A. This topped off a very favorable profile. Very few facilities received an A- or higher in each of our categories. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.43662 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the elderly population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
