Short-term Care Quality
We just could not find anything positive to say about this nursing home. It received just a D in our short-term care rating. Sadly, this turned out to be its best grade. Our short-term care grades are probably more important for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade this poor for this category, we were not stunned to learn this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing figures we assess. The facility supplied far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.9 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only received a D for its long-term care score, which turns out to be one of its higher category scores. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, this nursing home received an F for its inspection grade. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We suggest you pay close attention to the severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we graded was nursing. This nursing home was given a rock bottom grade of F in this area. We assessed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. On top of being below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor scores in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
