Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The second highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. Nursing ratings are largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a solid score in the area of long-term care, with a grade of B-. Our long-term care grades are based on the facility's amount of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 91.666664 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we expected but still a respectable figure. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we analyzed was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is a decent grade in this category. With our short-term care category, we try to forge a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It does not look like this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
