Nurse Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This facility boasts a really impressive 5.6 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly skilled levels of nurses. This is among the higher totals of nursing hours we found. In addition to providing high levels of nursing care, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. Inspection scores are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of of A+ for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care ratings are important for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. It performed as well as just about any facility in Utah with 63.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, this facility also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. This rounded out a straight A profile. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of offering very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
