Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's better category scores was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this category. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 84.2623 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we anticipated but still a decent figure. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this nursing home an D. The nursing grade is based on a number of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed is short-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is a poor score. This is clearly a significant concern. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. With a score of this caliber in this category, we were not stunned to learn this place was below average in many staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
