To pair with its decent overall grade, we awarded this facility an A for its inspection grade. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is an excellent sign for the quality of care at this nursing home.

One of this nursing home's more respectable category grades came in the category of long-term care. This wound up being its second best category. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. In calculating our long-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. The nursing score includes a number of factors. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. While this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving patients at least once a day.

Moving on to our next category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in short-term care. This was the nursing home's worst category score. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this facility provides substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
