Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ inspections recently. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its superb resume, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for that category. Short-term care grades are crucial for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing. This includes a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility was awarded a top-shelf grade of A in our long-term care category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 97.413795 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not take any chances. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we looked at ended up being this facility's worst area. Nevertheless, even its worst category would actually be a strength for many facilities. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B for nursing. When determining a facility's nursing grade, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
