Facility Inspections

Grade: A+

On top of receiving a great overall rating, this nursing home received an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on its recent government inspections. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its impressive assessments in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A- for our short-term care rating. In our short-term care score, we attempt to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, we found that this nursing home provided respectable levels of physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Missouri in this area with 58.5 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on our next category, this nursing home received first-rate long-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A- in this category. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.96907 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. This nursing home was also able to keep its residents out of the hospital. While it had 1.85 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most facilities since it had some more complex patients.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we rated is nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home an acceptable grade of B-. This proved to be this nursing home's weakest area. Our nursing rating is based on a handful of data points, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the data points we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
