Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a bad overall grade, we awarded it a fairly respectable grade in the category of inspections, where we gave it a grade of B-. This was certainly better than its other categories. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. When computing our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This place averages 3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also baked a few quality-based metrics into our nursing ratings. This facility was relatively weak in a few of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are usually decent indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
Short-term Care Quality
The third best area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our short-term care ratings are important for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was a much stronger area for this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities in this area with 67.7 percent of its patients returning home. This really helped its grade in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
Our final area is long-term care, in which we awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.061035 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.84 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
