Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care rating turns out to be one of its more favorable features. The nursing home was awarded a B- in this area. In the category of long-term care, we focus on the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, rather than more sophisticated services. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 91.83006 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed is short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. With our short-term care score, we strive to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this nursing home really did not fare very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in nursing, this was this nursing home's worst category grade. When determining a facility's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This facility averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This facility also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this metric.
