Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility excelled in the area of long-term care, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. If it wasn't for this grade, this facility's overall score would have likely been worse. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.798744 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Inspections is another category where this nursing home excelled. We gave this facility a grade of B+ for our inspections category. This is far more impressive than its overall score. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C, which is a decent grade. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, although this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we analyzed was short-term care. We gave this nursing home a D for our short-term care category, rendering this the facility's worst category. In determining our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
