Long-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this facility an abysmal overall score, we gave it a slightly better grade of B- for long-term care. Our long-term care ratings are crucial for individuals in need of personal care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 96.11111 percent of its residents, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home is not too far off the national average.
Facility Inspections
As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this facility's rock bottom overall grade. It earned a grade of C in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This means it dodged the more significant categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.
Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. We assessed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. On top of its below average nursing hours, this place earned poor scores in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We found that a higher percentage of this place's patients suffered falls leading to serious injury. We would argue that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this place receiving a poor nursing grade.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in this area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 29.6 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
