Facility Inspections
To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we awarded this facility a grade of A- for its inspection grade. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also would like to note that this facility was awarded impressive short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in this category, with a B. This proved to be the facility's second strongest score. Short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be a real strength for this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 64.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities third most favorable category is long-term care. We awarded it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this category. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's personal care instead of the skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 96.70782 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.4 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded is nursing. We gave it a C in this area. This is a decent grade in this category. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place was above average in two of the major metrics we focus on, including minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These statistics are sometimes accurate measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
