Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections are nearly perfect. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility was given elite marks in the category of short-term care. For this reason, it was given one of our most impressive scores in that category with a grade of A+. Short-term care grades are often employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the overwhelming majority of facilities with 66.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our next category, this nursing home was given a strong long-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A in this category. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. The last datapoint we assessed was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 3.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as strong as some of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of residents.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we scored, this nursing home was given a very favorable grade of A- in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home finished off a straight A profile. There are a number of criteria within this grade. Many of the criteria reflect nurse staffing. This place provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of this total, nearly one fourth of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any facility in the state.
