Nurse Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. In computing a facility's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are with patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This place offers an extremely impressive 4.8 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is among the better totals in Alabama. Finally, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this place performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is often an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a system of turning residents at least once a day.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the rare places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This grade is based on the place's recent inspections. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given a strong score of A in our long-term care area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 95.754715 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. The last datapoint we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 3.39 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Short-term Care Quality
In the last category we graded, this nursing home was awarded an impressive grade grade of A in our short-term care category. With this score, the nursing home wrapped up a straight A profile. With our short-term care grade, we strive to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed most nursing homes in the country with 52.3 percent of its patients returning home. This is a better rate than most nursing homes.
