To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care rating. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is typically a fair measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. It fared as well as just about any facility in the nation with 61.6 percent of its residents returning home.

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade is mostly tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 5 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this place performed as well as any facility the country. Preventing serious falls is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.

This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. It earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Turning to our last area, this nursing home received a high-end long-term care rating. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in that category, completing one of our better profiles. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. One of the statistics we considered in addition to this facility's quality nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for seniors. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
