Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive short-term care score. This proved to be its best category. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care rating. This wrapped up a first-rate profile. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are kept in good health. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
