Facility Inspections
In addition to earning a great overall grade, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is based on the nursing home's recent government inspections. In fact, we gave it an A+ for this area, which is one of our best grades. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home is also strong in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this category. With our short-term care category, we try to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility received a strong long-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that area with a score of B. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The final area we analyzed was nursing, which turned out to be this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Of course, this category hurt the nursing home's overall grade a bit. Nursing grades are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. While this nursing home's nursing hours are below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative metrics in this category. In particular, we were pleased to find that its patients appear to be suffering fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
