Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an C. Nursing ratings are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, our nursing grades also consider quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a middle of the pack score in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is an abysmal score. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated 58.093525 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be significantly below what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
