Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent grade of B- in the category of nursing. Our nursing rating is largely tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below the national average. Finally, our nursing scores also consider quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its second most favorable category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is a decent score. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. We were surprised to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
The third area we graded is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B- in this area. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 90.9589 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we anticipated. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last category of inspections, this nursing home received a terrible score. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection score. We would scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility was assessed 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
