Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually performed pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this place still received a relatively positive report.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that category. As it turns out, this wound up being its second best grade. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 96.27907 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
Another issue is the F this nursing home was given in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services In order to have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. With a score in this range in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this place was well below average in multiple staffing metrics we assess. In fact, it supplied far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics doomed this facility's short-term care score.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our next area, this nursing home didn't fare well in this area either. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we weigh the number of hours nurses spend with patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This place provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this facility also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this measure.
