Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of A-. This is a much better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also would like to note that this facility was given favorable short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of B+. This turned out to be the nursing home's second best score. In computing these short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. We weren't able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its third most favorable category grade in the area of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in this category, which is an acceptable grade. In computing our long-term care ratings, we look at the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's residents. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 99.43503 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this facility received a C in nursing, which we consider to be a decent grade. In computing our nursing grades, we look at both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
