Facility Inspections
On top of earning a strong overall grade, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. We awarded it an A+ for this category, which is one of our highest scores. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home really excelled in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Only a select group of facilities performed more favorably in this category. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 92.48434 percent of its patients. This is slightly lower than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is better than average. In determining our nursing grades, we add additional weight to hours performed by more highly trained nurses such as registered nurses. Finally, we also weighed some quality-based assessments. This facility fared well in a few of the quality measures we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home outpaced the national average. This is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated is short-term care. We gave it a C in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was respectable in this metric with 45 percent of its residents returning home.
