Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be given several A+ category grades. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the elite level of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the nursing home's record for vaccinations. By way of example, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. The last datapoint we looked at was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 2.15 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Our nursing rating consists of many datapoints, but the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very impressive figure which typically correlates with quality care. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
Short-term Care Quality
In our final area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for our short-term care rating. This rounded out a first-rate profile. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. The last measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the facility. We found that it fared respectably with 46.8 percent of its residents returning home.
