Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received an A+. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is frequently a reliable assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. This nursing home is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it provided approximately 50% more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 73.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. This was one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. The nursing score is based on many subcategories, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place boasts a really impressive 8.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the last area, this facility also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few of nursing homes to achieve straight A+'s. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate this place's vaccination data. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
