Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also gave this nursing home a score of A- for our long-term care score. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of B. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we scored was nursing, where this nursing home received a C. While this is its lowest category score, this is nevertheless not a terrible score. The nursing rating includes numerous subcategories. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in some quality-focused measures. We like to look at the percent of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these issues.
