In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility performed well in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few facilities fared as well in this area. Our inspection ratings are based on many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
An additional reason we graded this nursing home so highly is that it was given an A+ short-term care grade. This is flat out as good as it gets in this area. Short-term care scores are vital for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this place provides about 1.5 times as many hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we assessed. This is an encouraging sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 62.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed is long-term care. Adding to its first-rate resume, this facility also excelled in this category. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A in that category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were not able to locate information on vaccination rates. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
In the last category we rated, this facility received a very favorable grade of A- in our nursing category. With this grade, the facility topped off a straight A profile. Our nursing grade includes many components, however, the primary one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 5.6 hours of nursing care per patient daily, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering high levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care offered.
