Nurse Quality

Grade: B

While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B in nursing. Nursing ratings are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this facility a middle of the road grade in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's third highest score was long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.88558 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Facility Inspections

Turning our final category of inspections, this nursing home received a horrible grade. For nursing homes that received this bad of an inspection grade, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was hit with one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more severe categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies found by CMS had potential to create actual harm to patients. Finally, this facility also received 35 substantiated complaints in recent years.
