Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it actually received a somewhat respectable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this category, which is a decent score. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B-. Our nursing grade considers a host of datapoints. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second lowest score is long-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that area. This is a well below average grade. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is short-term care, which was this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This area is considered to be a useful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. With a grade this poor in this area, we weren't shocked to discover that this place was below average in several staffing metrics we focus on. The nursing home provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
