Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. In computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with residents and the level of skill of those nurses. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it scored well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our short-term care grade, which isn't a bad grade. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below average.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second least favorable category is long-term care, where it earned just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor grade. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 85.75 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is quite a few points less than what we were hoping for. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
Facility Inspections
Moving on the final category of inspections, this facility fared very poorly. It received an F in our inspection category. For facilities that received this poor of an inspection score, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
