Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B for our nursing rating. In determining our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a patient at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility also didn't grade out poorly in the category of short-term care. In fact, we gave it a C in that area, which turned out to be among its more respectable grades. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We wanted to point out that this facility received an F for its inspection grade. An F in this area is very concerning because it usually points to red flags on the facility's inspections. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection grade. We recommend you scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility was assessed multiple deficiencies in categories G through L, which are among the more serious categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies uncovered by the government inspectors had potential to pose actual harm to residents. Lastly, we also need to point out that this facility received significant government fines amounting to more than $100,000. This usually signifies that a facility's bad track record has been an issue for several years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home did not fare very well here either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in long-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 96.22642 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
