Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B in the category of nursing. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are with patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning a patient at least once a day.

This facility also didn't rate terribly in the area of short-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a C in that area, which ended up being among its higher grades. Short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinates 95.37445 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Turning our last category of inspections, this facility received a grade that's as bad as it gets. We weight this grade more heavily than other categories. When a place has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular facility was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also want to point out that this place was assessed significant government fines recently of more than $100,000. This often indicates that a facility's poor performance has been an issue for more than one year.
