Registered Staff Hours
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a relatively impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. Inspection scores are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D for our short-term care grade and that actually ended up being its next most favorable score. Short-term care grades are commonly used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With its grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

The last area we rated was long-term care. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in this area. Facilities that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 89.95633 percent of its residents. This is several points less than average. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
