Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially wanted to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded it an A in this category. Inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this facility also was given favorable long-term care grades this year. Indeed, we gave them one of our more favorable grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 57.91757 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a bit lower than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we analyzed was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's weakest area is nursing, which is the last area we looked at. For this category, we gave this facility a D. Our nursing rating includes many factors, most of which are tied to nursing hours. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
