Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities next best area is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this category. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This proved to be a stronger area than its staffing data. This place fared well in this area with 58.7 percent of its residents returning home. This was a boost to its grade in this category.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing rating. We gave this nursing home a score of D. The nursing rating considers many datapoints. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in two of the major areas we focus on, with good marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed was long-term care, which proved to be this facility's least impressive area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is obviously very concerning. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 94.96403 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
